How do I include real estate in my portfolio?

Although there is no good index for real estate data, it can be included in your Alloset financial plan. Real estate is considered a cash flow. If the property is income producing (i.e.- rental property), enter an annual contribution for the amount you expect the property to yield. Other property should be illustrated as a one-time cash flow in the year you expect the property to be sold.

How do I constrain my asset categories?

One way to constrain individual asset categories is to select Constraints from the Main Menu. Next, either constrain the broad or product constraints using the minimum and/or maximum percentages.

Another way to constrain products and asset categories is to use the User Defined defaults section of the Utilities Menu on the Main Menu in Alloset. Click on the Constraints tab then select Product or Class. At that point you can select the minimum and/or maximum percentages.

Why is my net worth reduced by more than my withdrawal?

All flows in Alloset are considered after tax. Therefore, any withdrawal amount is automatically adjusted for taxes. Thus, the actual amount taken for the account equals your stated withdrawal plus taxes on that withdrawal.
